Recommended for adults aged 50 and above to gain immunity to shingles. This vaccination service is available to both foreigners and Singapore residents.
You can book an appointment online, or walk-in directly for your shingles vaccination. You could also include it as an add-on option to your health screening appointment.
Why should you get the shingles vaccination (recombinant zoster vaccine)?
The shingles vaccine helps prevent shingles (herpes zoster), which is caused by the Varicella Zoster Virus (VZV) – the same virus that causes chickenpox. Even after you've recovered from chickenpox, VZV stays dormant in your body and can reactivate later in life, causing shingles.
Getting vaccinated can protect you from this painful condition and also prevent the virus from spreading to others who have never had chickenpox or received the chickenpox vaccine. VZV transmission occurs through direct contact with the fluid from shingles rash blisters, but people with shingles cannot spread the virus before their rash blisters appear or after the rash has crusted.
This vaccine is given as a 2-dose series, with the second shot administered 2 to 6 months after the first shot. It is important to complete the 2-dose series to help prevent shingles. Protect yourself and your loved ones by getting vaccinated today.
