Transient elastography is a quick, painless and non-invasive ultrasound used to measure liver stiffness (scarring) and fat content. It is non-invasive compared to traditional liver biopsies to help diagnose and monitor conditions like fatty liver disease, hepatitis, and cirrhosis.
It is recommended for individuals with risk factors or elevated liver enzymes. It includes both ultrasound liver for fibrosis and steatosis in the same seating.
It is used to manage:
- Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD/NASH)
- Chronic Hepatitis B or C
- Alcoholic liver disease
- Unexplained jaundice or abnormal liver function tests
This is a fasting test and requires 6 hours of fasting (Sips of water allowed) for better imaging of the liver structures.
